Apr 4, 2024 | 3:35 PM
The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie will be hosting a new Exhibition titled “Land Breaths”. The new exhibit will run until August 4th.
The Exhibition is in celebration of the 125th anniversary of Treaty 8, curated by Guest Curator Jaime Morse. 13 artists across Treaty 8 will be featured in the gallery.
Jessica Groome is the Executive Director and Chief Curator at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie and hopes people will take the time to learn about Truth and Reconciliation through artistic expression.

Residents in Treaty 8 will be able to see art from:

Adrienne Greyeyes, Dion Smith-Dokkie, Fran Rogers-Chowace, Haley Bassett, Hazel Robinson, Jake Kimble, Jaylenn Tourangeau, Kisakaw Pisim Burnham, Kristy Auger, Michelle Sound, Natesa Medlicott-Kappo, Rhonda Johnson and Shane Soto.

Each artist brings to light an evolution from the signing of Treaty 8, recognizing historic figures, kinship with the natural world, and acknowledging the trauma caused by broken treaty promises.

Groome says this whole gallery stemmed from a simple question that her and her team asked eachother.

For details on how to visit this Exhibition for yourself you can go to the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie website.
