As part of the continued economic growth and community prosperity, the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation invited community members, media and dignitaries to their brand new high school opening.
The Chief Aranazhi School will prepare students for post secondary education and employment opportunities. The $20M project also functions as a community centre, commercial kitchen and ceremonial space.
The Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation has been a shining example of Economic Reconciliation leading the way in projects generating profits and jobs for community members.
Chief Tony Alexis spoke with Windspeaker Media discussing the continued economic growth within the community and the plans for the future.
Among the dignitaries invited was Patty Hajdu, the Minister of Indigenous Services of Canada. This was Hajdu’s first time on the nation and mentioned how electric and energized the community feels to her.
Chief Aranazhi School is named after Mitaushin Aranazhi. Known as ‘Alexis Akanas’ in his Treaty Government name, he signed the adhesion to Treaty Six in 1877 on behalf of the Nakota people.
